LET'S STOP THE PROGRESSION OF ACID REFLUX
There are many factors that impact our esophageal conditions and we are on a quest to find tips, suggestions, and alternatives to manage our acid reflux, and hopefully reverse its effects.
HOW GERD 2 GREAT MIGHT HELP OTHERS
We have acid reflux and are apparently joined by 15 million friends
that are also suffering from acid reflux any given day.
Though we are not medical experts, we have been personally affected by heartburn, acid reflux, GERD, Barrett's Esophagus, and Esophageal Cancer and want to act now to stop the quick escalation of this common condition and help many others like us do the same.

HEARTBURN'S "SURPRISING" IMPACT ON MY LIFE

I'm Jim, founder of Project Flyway and curator of GERD 2 Great, pictured with my mom, Nancy, on a family trip a long time ago.
Nancy, passed away in 2010 at age 59 after an 8 month battle with Stage IV metastasized Esophageal Cancer. For years she would have heartburn after most meals and simply took an antacid chewable to relieve her symptoms. Lower back pain on a road trip in 2009 helped reveal the arrival of Cancer metastasized to several body systems - a profound curve in the road in her life and for all who adored her.
Shortly after her passing, when I was 31, I worked with a Gastroenterologist to convince my insurer to let me have a baseline upper GI endoscopy completed almost two decades earlier than the insurer would normally allow. I'm glad I did it as I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus, a leading precursor to Esophageal Cancer.
The scariest part was I never had a single bout of heartburn in my life. Still to this day I live my life mostly "asymptomatic" aside from the scaring on my esophagus, as Barrett's.
If you or someone you know has heartburn please be sure to look into this underestimated force of nature ASAP!
COULD I CHANGE, OR REVERSE COURSE?
Without any symptoms, my acid reflux feels like a silent time bomb with a fuse burning as time goes on. Thankfully, I figured out what I'm up against and hopefully in time to extend my life longer.
All the articles I've read mirror what my medical providers say "you have to change your lifestyle". But what does that mean for me? Pizza of any kind is my favorite food, ice cream is my favorite treat, and I would like to enjoy some aspects of life.
GERD 2 Great is where I am capturing my exploration of alternatives to help me manage my silent acid reflux. I hope by sharing these findings they help you or someone you know manage their heartburn. My ultimate hope is that by making several adjustments to my lifestyle I may not only manage my acid reflux but reverse its effects and extend my life.
I'm glad to have you with me on this journey as we navigate this together.
